Following the zoos in Stara Zagora and Sofia, the veterinarians of the Wildlife Rehabilitation and Breeding Centre of Green Balkans also visited the animals from the bird sector of Zoo Centre Dobrich.

At the event, in addition to the Green Balkans volunteers studying veterinary medicine in Trakia University, present were also students from the Professional School of Veterinary Medicine, "Prof. Dr. G. Pavlov" in Dobrich. They took an active part in the prophylactic examinations of all 81 birds inhabiting the zoo.

Besides the external examination and internal and external deworming, some of the birds had their talons trimmed and beaks coped.

We used our visit to the zoo to transport a formed pair of barn owls and a two long-eared owls to their new home. The birds are permanently disabled and cannot be released into the wild, but there is a good chance that they will breed in captivity and their offspring can subsequently be released.

On the day before the examinations, our team presented the activities of Green Balkans and the Rescue Centre at an organised beforehand event in Dobrich. It took place in the hall of Zoo Centre Dobrich, the guests were students from the Professional School of Veterinary Medicine and residents of the city. At the end of the event, from the hands of some of the participants two successfully rehabilitated long-eared owls and one barn owl were released back into the wild.
