A saker falcon hatched in the incubators at the Green Balkans Wildlife Rehabilitation and Breeding Center

May 08, 2019

***
A saker falcon, hatched a little over a week ago in one of the incubators at the Green Balkans Rescue Center has been transferred to a foster pair of the same species.

The egg was laid by a female at the Rescue Center and was taken into the incubator to hatch. Our team took care of it and a week after the baby hatched it was sent to a foster pair at the Breeding center for birds of prey in Burgas. Our colleague, Plamen Paskalev, is responsible for the breeding program, which includes different species of diurnal and nocturnal birds of prey, including saker falcons. It often happens that the Green Balkans Rescue Center admits patients from the private collection in Burgas, proving how important the exchange of experience is.

We’d like to thank our colleague, Plamen Paskalev, from the Breeding center in Burgas for his help throughout our long-lasting partnership!

The rest of the young chicks, hatched at the Rescue Center, will be released into the wild within the ‘Saker Falcon Reintroduction in Bulgaria’ project, aiming the species return in our country.

We’d also like to remind you that our field work for the saker falcon is about to begin soon, so we are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help us feed and monitor the chicks.
