After a month of quarantine, the Griffon Vultures shipped in June from Spain, were distributed among the four adaptation aviaries maintained within the Vultures Return in Bulgaria LIFE08 NAT/BG/278 Project.

Before they started from the Rescue Centre at Green Balkans, on Monday each of the vultures was treated against parasites and marked with special plastic ring and a set of matching wing-tags. These tags help us identify the birds and follow their adaptation and behavior following their release.

A total of eight vultures were transported to Vrachanski Balkan, eleven to Central Balkan, seven to Sliven, four to Kotel and one to Kresna for a similar restoration project called LIFE for Kresna. The thirty-second vulture, tagged K6W turned out too weak and had a problem with one of its joints so we had to separate it from its fellows and leave it at the Rescue Centre for general therapy.

The birds will spend the winter in the aviaries, in order to get acclimatized and get used to the local environment and we will open the doors in the spring and let them join the group of vultures we have released since the start of the project.
