The vultures need donors in order to be marked with a satellite transmitter.
The Municipality of Stara Zagora donated the first hatched within the Zoo Eurasian griffon vulture to Bulgaria`s wildlife. At the end of last week, a team from Green Balkans and representatives from the Zoo of Stara Zagora transported the grown-up fledgling to the place where it will be released – in the “Sinite kamani” nature park near Sliven.
For the moment the vulture stays at the aviary kept by the team from the project “Life for the Bearded vulture”, in which it will live with other birds from the same species and in that way, it will adapt better to its new home.
Before sending it to the aviary the vulture was examined and disinfested by the veterinary surgeons from the Wildlife Rehabilitation and Breeding Centre. The bird was marked with a ring and wing tag in order to be identified in the wild.
Those methods won’t show the migration of the bird in the wildness or lead to the position of its eventual nest.
Such information can only be obtained with a satellite transmitter and this is way we are doing a donation campaign. The campaign is for two transmitters because soon the second vulture that hatched in the Zoo of Stara Zagora will be released too.
The aim is 800 BGN. This includes the price for two transmitters, consumables and materials for placing them and the transmitting fee for 5 years.
The bank account for donations is:
BG62 UNCR 7000 8422 2363 84
Basis for transfer: Donation for transmitters for Eurasian griffon vultures.
Each donor will become a certificate for the help and on the official homepages of Zoo Stara Zagora and Green Balkans will be periodically published news about the two vultures.
