A White-tailed eagle, cured and released by the Green Balkans Rescue Centre, was found dead as a result of an electric shock!

23.03.2021
You probably remember the happy ending story of the young White-tailed eagle, which was rescued by locals and admitted for treatment at the Green Balkans Rescue Centre at the end of last year, and which our team successfully released in mid-February 2021, in the area where it was found?
Despite the efforts of all of us, this story still has no happy ending!

Thanks to the satellite transmitter installed during the release, our field team was able to determine that something was wrong with the bird, as well as to tell its exact location!

Unfortunately, when we arrived at the place, we found the carcass of the young eagle. It was just below one of the transmission lines in the area.
What impressed us was that the bird weighed more than when it was released, which proves the good work done by our team! The autopsy, performed hours after the arrival of the eagle's carcass at the Centre, confirmed our initial suspicions that the bird had died as a result of an electric shock!
