RIEW experts informed the Organization’s team for protection of birds of prey, working for the “Bright Future for the Black Vulture” LIFE14 NAT/BG/649 project, at the very moment. Considering that the birds had visible problems, it flew in the city and its surroundings, tens of citizens gave calls to the environmentalists and the institutions. The police were also involved in the localization of the vulture, tracking and “chasing” it for some time with a squad car ;). So, with the joint efforts of RIEW, “Vrachanski Balkan” NP Directorate, citizens and team of the Society for protection of birds of prey, the bird was caught in the outskirts of the town.
It was determined that this is K73 (According to the wing marker), hatched in Spain in 2012, imported and released in Bulgaria in 2014.
Early next morning (03.04.2017) the bird was transported for treatment in Green Balkans’ Wildlife Centre in Stara Zagora. The initial veterinarian examination revealed, that the bird is exhausted with relatively low weight. The x-ray and the general improvement therapy was administered. The bird’s observation will continue in the next few days for subsequent clarification of the reasons for its condition.
We hope that it will recover successfully and will be returned to the wild nature.
We thank all the institutions and citizens that helped with the administration of the birds in the Wildlife Centre, and the timely and adequate aid!
