A Bearded vulture hatched at the Green Balkans Rescue Center!
04.03.2022Yesterday, a Bearded vulture hatched at the Green Balkans Rescue Center!
It is the youngest generation of the only breeding pair of this species in Bulgaria.
We remind you that the couple has been with us since 2008 and is successfully breeding since 2016. The first years we took and hatched the eggs in an incubator. This was due to the inexperience of the parents. Both in nature and in aviary conditions, in the first few years, parents do not know how to care for the young in the first days of hatching, and they often die.
After becoming parents for six years, our Bearded vultures are now experienced and the Green Balkans team has given them their full confidence in raising the newly hatched. And, we did not make a mistake! Yesterday, the little one hatched, with a little help from mom, and since then it has been under the constant care of both parents.
We remind you that the Green Balkans Rescue Center is part of an international group supporting the return of the species to various parts of Europe. Until now, the chicks hatched in our country are sent to different places on the old continent, where the program works. We hope that soon it will start working in our country, and not only to release the birds hatched in the Center, but also those sent to us from other parts of the world.
We thank the VCF experts for the expert help and that we can always count on for the survival of our newly hatched bearded vultures!
