The vultures are secured by the Spanish organization GREFA in order to join the family of the Vultures Return in Bulgaria LIFE08 NAT/BG/278 Project.

The strange passengers raised huge interest along the way. The crew was not allowed to enter Serbia, which significantly prolonged the travel. We caused some delays at the Romanian border as well, as all the officers from the border point wanted to check for themselves the odd shipment and make sure that it is legal. There was always the random enthusiast who wanted to see what would happen if they stuck their finger in the pet porter, but fortunately these attempts all ended with no casualties! :)

The vultures will remain at the Wildlife Rescue Centre at Green Balkans - Stara Zagora for a month for quarantine and after that they will be fitted with rings and wing-tags and then distributed among the four adaptation aviaries in the Balkan Mountains. Once they get used to the new sites, climate and characteristics, the birds will be released, hoping that they will settle down on the rocks of the Balkan Mountains.
